The 5 Best Local Experiences in Hoi An

The 5 Best Local Experiences in Hoi An

🎥 The 5 Best Local Experiences in Hoi An

[Opening – Walking through Hoi An]

“When people think of Hoi An, they often picture the yellow houses, colorful lanterns, and the famous Ancient Town. But if you want to see the real Hoi An, you need to go beyond the tourist streets.

Today, I’m taking you to five local places and experiences where you can discover the traditions, food, nature, and everyday life of my hometown.”

🌿 Number 5 – Tra Que Vegetable Village

“First, let’s head to Tra Que Vegetable Village, just a short ride from the Ancient Town.

This is where local farmers have been growing vegetables and herbs for generations. The village is famous for its fresh organic produce, which is an important part of Hoi An cuisine.

Here, you can walk through the vegetable gardens, meet local farmers, learn about traditional farming methods, and even try being a farmer yourself.

It’s peaceful, green, and a completely different side of Hoi An.”**

🪵 Number 4 – Kim Bong Carpentry Village

“Next, we cross the river to Kim Bong Carpentry Village.

For centuries, local craftsmen here have passed traditional woodworking skills from one generation to the next.

You can see artisans working by hand, shaping wood into furniture, boats, sculptures, and traditional architectural details.

What I love about Kim Bong is that this is not just a tourist attraction. It’s a living craft village where traditional skills are still part of everyday life.”**

🏺 Number 3 – Thanh Ha Pottery Village

“Our third destination is Thanh Ha Pottery Village, one of the oldest traditional craft villages around Hoi An.

Here, local artisans turn simple clay into beautiful pots, bowls, animals, and other handmade products.

You can watch the craftsmen working on the pottery wheel and, if you want, try making your own piece of pottery.

It’s a fun experience, but more importantly, it gives you a chance to meet local people and understand how traditional crafts are kept alive.”**

🛶 Number 2 – Bay Mau Coconut Forest

“Now, let’s leave the villages behind and head to the water.

Welcome to Bay Mau Coconut Forest, a peaceful area of waterways surrounded by coconut palms.

The best way to explore it is by traditional Vietnamese basket boat. As you drift through the narrow waterways, you’ll see local fishermen, coconut trees, and another side of life along Hoi An’s rivers.

It’s relaxing, fun, and definitely one of the most memorable experiences you can have outside the Ancient Town.”**

🏮 Number 1 – Make Your Own Hoi An Lantern

“And my number one local experience is something you can actually take home with you — making your own Hoi An lantern.

Lanterns have become one of the symbols of Hoi An, but instead of just taking photos of them, why not learn how they are made?

You’ll work with a local artisan to create the bamboo frame, shape the lantern, and choose your own colors and fabric.

And at the end, you have your own handmade Hoi An lantern — a personal souvenir and a memory of your time here.”**

🎬 Closing

“So, if you’re coming to Hoi An, don’t just stay in the Ancient Town.

Get on a bicycle, meet local farmers and craftsmen, explore the countryside, get on a basket boat, and make something with your own hands.

These are the experiences that let you see Hoi An through local eyes.

I’m Thang, a local guide born and raised in Hoi An. If you’re looking for authentic local experiences beyond the tourist trail, I’d love to show you my hometown.

See you in Hoi An!”
